News Channel 5 created the Nourish the Heart: Food Fundraiser, to help feed our neighbors in need in honor of Rev. Enoch Fuzz, pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. Following the tornadoes and this time of a pandemic, other illnesses also continue to affect members of our society.
As Rev. Fuzz has had to succumb to the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, he continues to lead in an effort to address “…the war we are fighting with food deprivation in our great city. There is a serious concern for the lack of foods that people are receiving,” he said. “We want everyone to have the same opportunity to receive the foods to prepare healthy meals for their families.”
During the month of June, Rev. Fuzz has spent his time between Metro Nashville General Hospital, and with members and even at home with people to care for him. He remains under very close supervision under doctor’s care, as it is a precarious situation to spend a lot of time in the hospital during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
While he is still very sick, he is currently taking great care in taking his prescribed medications, resting and eating well.
As he observes the importance of taking care of himself, he also remains concerned for the health of others. He continues to encourage people to get testing for Covid-19, as well as selectively coordinating the community to utilize the great network relationships of One Nashville, where people can find a plethora of resources for a variety of social, personal and economic needs.
Fuzz is appreciative of the efforts of Nick Beres at News Channel 5 and their food fund-raising promotions through Nourish the Heart. As the community is encouraged to seek the service of the General Hospital Food Pharmacy by simply requesting food, there is also a need to receive donations in order to obtain the proper foods to provide. The Food Pharmacy program delivers fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meats and grain.
“Our goal is $100,000 to deliver 60,000 meals in the community,” said Vernon Rose, executive director of the General Hospital Foundation. The Scripps Howard Foundation and other generous community partners will also match every donation, dollar for dollar.
