“In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc. will host a ‘My Sister’s Keeper,’ a program designed to combat domestic violence in Middle Tennessee,” said President and Tenn. state Rep. Brenda Gilmore. The forum will be held at the Goodwill Center located at 937 Herman Street Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday, October 10. The program will start at 11 am and end at 12:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

My Sister’s Keeper is free and open to the public. Come out and learn the prevalence/impact of domestic violence on the community; reasons why she/he stays; discuss effective bystander invention strategies; and brainstorm ways to encourage bystander invention.

Domestic Violence does not discriminate. Regardless of an individual’s party affiliation, economic, or social distinction, their lives are impacted. It is imperative that we equip our communities with the strategies to help put an end to this infringement of human rights.

The National Hook-Up of Black Women Domestic Violence Committee is comprised of Josephine Buggs, Veronica Clark, Lanita Darby, Dr. Ruth Dennis, Martha Lupai, and Belinda Williams.

Established in 1979, The National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc. Nashville Chapter is a nonprofit (501c3) organization that strives to improve the quality of life for women and their families.

The group’s goals and objectives are to be strong advocates for family sustainability by providing programs in the areas of the arts, culture, health wellness, education, and human service programs.
