The 3rd Annual Power Moves Awards were given at the PK Williams Enterprises Presents the 2019 Power Moves Awards Gala on August 17, at the Omni Nashville Hotel. Michael Cristal, the 35th International President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was the keynote speaker. The event was co-hosted by Kenny Smoov, VP of Urban Platforms and program director at Cumulus Media, and Page Turner, Flip or Flop Nashville TV personality.
“We are truly excited to sponsor this event because it gives us an opportunity to honor the contributions and accomplishments of ‘Ordinary People Doing EXTRAordinary Things’ in their communities,” said founder Patrycya King Williams. “The PMA’s (Power Moves Awards) is our signature fundraising charity event that raises money for our non-profit, Power Knowledge Wisdom Foundation, Inc. The foundation is dedicated to nurturing, mentoring, and teaching young girls on how to become extraordinary women in their communities.”
The Arts & Entertainment Awards, presented by Henry B. Hicks, III, President/ CEO of the National Museum of African American Music, went to Meleisha Edwards, Sam “MissNewYork” Gentry, and Angel Stanford.
The Community Advocacy Awards, presented by Brandon Marshall, Journalist with NewsChannel 5, went to Judge Rachel Bell, Yvette Vinson Moore, and Laquita Stribling.
The Education Awards, presented by Dr. Jennifer Berry Silva, Director of STEAM for Metro Nashville Public Schools went to Crystal Hicks, Dr. Darren Kennedy, and Dr. Tonja Williams.
The Entrepreneurship Awards, presented by Yolonda Beech, Cumulus media radio personality & Robert Sherrill, CEO/ President of Imperial Cleaning Service, went to Danielle McGee, Jurry Smith, and Bobby Thomas, Jr.
The Finance Awards, presented by Marcus T. Henderson, Sr., President/ CEO of Henderson Financial Group, went to Alfonzo Alexander, Cathy Bender, and LaShonda Daniels.
The Fraternity Awards, presented by Ed Wisdom, III, Director of Vanderbilt University Information Technology Cloud services, went to Tee Banks, Tony Beard, and LaSalle Curry.
The Healthcare Awards, presented by Dr. Lori Breaux Mitchell, Pediatrician with Brentwood Pediatrics, went to Sereadia Cooke, Perrion Gordon, Tara Roth, and Lauren Tina Wilson.
The Service and Philanthropy Awards, presented by William (Bill) Deaton, CEO of Up Artist Development (UPAD), went to Chris Lilly, Demetrius Short, and Susan Vanderbilt.
The Sorority Awards, presented by Zuri Adkins, Assistant Principal with Metro Nashville Public Schools, went to Teresa Campbell, Debbi Howard, and Cynthia Pitts.
Traci Otey Blount received the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Power Moves Awards Gala. Blount is Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for the National Football League since October, 2018, where she leads communication strategies across key areas within the NFL, including current affairs, business operations, NFL Media, government affairs, health and safety and social responsibility. In accepting her award, she was emphatic that she considers the award to be a mid-career achievement award. She acknowledged her families, including her Tennessee State University family, her Delta Sigma Theta sorority family and her Tennessee State University Aristocrat of Bands family, as well as her parents, sister, husband and daughter.
