“As the deer longs for the water, so my soul longs after the living God,” Psalms 42:1.
The sons of Korah were the chief Temple musicians who prayed to the Lord before worship. This was a confession of sin, an encouragement to God to trust in Him. David appointed the sons of Korah to serve as choir leaders after the death of Korah who was a rebellious Levite. But his descendants were faithful to God and continued to serve God in the Temple. The sons thirsted for God, weeping for His help. We need God’s great blessings; we long for God.
Do you long for God each day of your life? Do you seek Him? Do you weep for His help?
Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may call others to come to you—that I may require [be in need of, call for, requisite] them to come for the work of the kingdom of God.
How much do you need God in your life?
Look at David. He was a man after God’s own heart. David wrote: “My soul longs after the living God. I call out for you, the living God,” Psalm 84:2.
David had a strong desire for God. Even after his failure, he said I will repent and again find me a place in God’s will.
Look at Job who said I must honor God. God’s word does more for my mouth than my need for food (Job 23:12).
Abraham had his heart fixed on God, and His commandments (Genesis 21:14).
Abraham would get up early to obey God—even to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22:3).
Joseph longed after God. He yearned for God and remained faithful during his betrayal by his brothers when he was sold into slavery (Genesis 39:9).
Moses’ needed God in his difficult journey through the wilderness as God’s leader of the Israelites during the time of there rebellion (Deuteronomy 1:1-4:43).
The Prophet Daniel prayed to God three times a day on his knees and gave thanks to God in a strange land, and God protected him in a den of lions (Daniel 6:10).
How much do we long for God? How much do we need Him?
“I have set the Lord always before me: I shall not be moved,” Psalm 16:8.
We need a heart like this. I will not be moved. I will long after the Lord today in my life.
