“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the father—he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with Me from the beginning,” John 15: 26-27.
Role of the Holy Spirit
The main job of the Holy Spirit is to point people to Jesus and to prove who he is. This is why Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Advocate (helper, paraclete): the one who is called to stand by our side that is sent to you by the Father. He is the Spirit of Truth that has come from God the Father and is sent by Jesus Christ.
The main role of the Holy Spirit is to empower leaders, and to in-dwell in the life of the believers. The Holy Spirit keeps you in the wisdom, strength, and power of God. The Spirit gives spiritual birth, turning people toward new life in Christ. As the Holy Spirit acts as the helper, the paraclete—the Spirit lives inside the believers to guide, comfort, and teach them all things. The spirit helps believers to grow and produce ‘fruit.’ This is a unique ability for every believer to help them make it in life.
Role of the Disciples
The disciple is to share and testify to others about God as Lord. Jesus told them: ‘As My disciples, you can do this because you have been with Me from the very beginning and the start of My ministry. I will give you the Holy Spirit to give the believers power and boldness needed to share in your faith, because the world may oppose you. As My eyewitnesses and ambassadors of this Christian faith, you have received direct instructions. You have witnessed My resurrection and been a part of my earthly ministry. You have observed miracles; seen Me open the eyes of the blind; and give life back to the dead.’
That is why Jesus commissioned His disciples to witness and empower others to make disciples of all nations. The 12 disciples were to mirror the 12 tribes of Israel—the renewal and continuation of God’s covenant people.
The helper is to do the work of God, just like the Father and the Son. The Father is sending you. So, go and don’t give up.
