Expressions of Faith: Your weekly meditation

His foundation is in the holy mountains. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob (Psalm 87:1-2).

God loves to meet and talk with His people. He loves our worship and praise. He wants to hear our prayers and observe your growth in holiness.

“But as he hath called you is holy, so be holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy,” 1 Peter 1:15-17.

God is seeking each day to have fellowship with you, as you continue to have fellowship with him. “Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you,” Matthew 6:33.

In this week’s Bible reading (Exodus 33:12 – 34:8), we see Moses’ plea for the presence of God to go with him as he led Israel to Canaan. After God consented to go along, Moses requested something special. He asked to see God’s glory. God responded by inviting him up the mountain. There God showed Moses His goodness. Moses’ response was to fall on his face and worship God. He saw the holiness of God on Mount Sinai. Have we done the same thing? Have we viewed the Lord’s holiness on our own Mount Sinai?

In Matthew 17, Jesus took Peter, James, and John onto a high mountain and was transfigured before them. There they heard the voice of God commending Jesus Christ to them. There they received the clear message that Christ was to be heard. It appears that God wanted to impress Christ’s eternal glory and authority upon the disciples. Have you been to the Mount of Transfiguration? Have you bowed there before the authority of Jesus Christ?

This week’s key verse says that the Lord loves the gates of Zion. Psalm 48 describes the beauty of Mount Zion and portrays God as a refuge to His people. Have you found refuge in the church of God or the city called Mount Zion? Have you, on this mountain, entered into worship with the saints of God? Have you experienced their God’s love, kindness, and righteousness? The last verse of Psalm 48 sums up what we find in the mountains. “For this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our guide even unto the end of time.”
