On Saturday, March 29, families across the city are invited to gather at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park Visitors Center for a day of outdoor fun and community spirit at the 16th annual ‘Kids and Kites Day.’ Hosted by former state Sen. Brenda Gilmore, the beloved event will run from 10 am to 2 pm, offering a variety of activities designed to encourage health, wellness, and family bonding.
“It will be a perfect day for family, fun, and fresh air!” said Gilmore. “Bring the kids, lace up your sneakers, and join us for a day filled with excitement, movement, and community love. Enjoy a treasure hunt, bounce house, free food, and more!”
‘Kids and Kites Day’ provides an opportunity for Nashville’s children to enjoy a day of excitement while also raising awareness about childhood obesity and diabetes. The event will feature local health and wellness vendors, a one-mile family fun walk/run, giveaway prizes, live music, and of course, kite flying. Attendees can bring their own kites or use those provided at the event.
Organizers encourage parents and children to come prepared for a fun-filled day of outdoor activities: “For Kids and Kites Day, both kids and parents should come prepared for a fun and active field day. This may include comfortable clothing, hats/sunglasses, and water bottles.”
The event was co-founded by former Sen. Gilmore, Lois Winston, Fantasia in Red, and the Red Hat Society. This year’s sponsors include Vaccines for All; Tennessee State Parks; Alexander & Associates, Inc.; The Newlife; Vanderbilt University; the Tennessee Department of Health; and James Harris, attorney.
With its mission to serve a diverse group of children, empower young participants, and promote good citizenship, ‘Kids and Kites Day’ remains a cherished annual tradition for Nashville families. Don’t miss out on this special day of fun, fitness, and community engagement.
