Trustee Gilmore’s Community Ride Mobilizes Support to Address Non-driver Barriers

Trustee Erica S. Gilmore hosts a Nashville bike and scooter ride supporting non-drivers, safer streets, and accessible transportation during Week Without Driving.

America Walks Vice Chair and Metropolitan Trustee Erica S. Gilmore (center) invites Nashvillians to stand alongside non-drivers in support of safe, connected, and accessible transportation for all.

NASHVILLE, TN — How many extra inconveniences would you face without reliable transportation?

For more than 1/3 of Americans, this is their reality. That burden is especially heavy for households earning less than $25,000 a year, who spent an average of 30% of their after-tax income on transportation in 2022.

At her Second Annual Community Bike & Scooter Ride, America Walks Vice Chair and Metropolitan Trustee Erica S. Gilmore is inviting Nashvillians to stand alongside non-drivers in support of safe, connected and accessible transportation.

Hosted during America Walks’ Week Without Driving, Trustee Gilmore’s ride brings Nashville’s voice to a nationwide movement working to dismantle the obstacles that non-drivers face on their daily commutes.

“By drawing attention to these barriers to mobility justice, we are opening the door to policy changes and infrastructure investments that make Nashville’s streets safer for cyclists, pedestrians, and scooter riders,” said Gilmore.
